The Original David Statue
The original David statue was created in marble between 1501 and 1504 and stands 17ft high, weighing 6 tons. Our classy home decor item is a little smaller of course! David now stands in the Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze, or "Gallery of the Academy of Florence", which is an art museum in Florence, Italy.
Michelangelo is among the most documented artists of the 16th century, being best known for painting the frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. But, he thought of himself primarily as a sculptor.
